My mentor helped me to think differently!

Leila success story website

We were delighted when Leila signed up to our Developing Futures 12-week e-mentoring programme for young people aged between 18-24 years old from ethnic minority backgrounds and struggling with their mental health.  We were able to pair her with an experienced mentor who helped her to think differently about the life crossroads she had found herself facing.  Here Leila tells us in her own words, what she got from the experience…

"When I first spoke with my mentor, I was at a crossroads about what I wanted to do with my life. However, speaking with them made me realise that I was seeing things in a compartmentalised way.  I did not need to separate my academic career from my desire to do graphic design or wait until I have a job to start designing.

Thanks to my mentor's advice, I've been doing design work based on fake client requests. This has allowed me to create a STEM-themed infographic for International Women's Day, which my colleagues helped display around the floor we're working on.

I'm truly grateful to my mentor for their guidance and support."
