Twining Enterprise is delighted to launch ‘Developing Futures’ a 10-week e-mentoring programme for 18- to 24-year-olds from minority backgrounds.

The programme is designed to help young people from minority backgrounds in the Borough of Haringey develop a growth mindset, hope, self-efficacy, coping mechanisms and social capital through the support of a positive and consistent role model; all invaluable in their journey to a successful career, making positive life choices and creating a positive mental health foundation for today and beyond.

The mentees will initially come from the Borough of Haringey where the proportion of young people with social, emotional and mental health needs is higher than both the London (2.49%) and England (2.7%) average (Haringey State of Borough Report, 2021).  Furthermore, rates for young people from minority communities (39.5% of the borough population) are likely to be higher than reported figures indicate, due to the reduced openness and presentation of these groups.

Working in partnership with local service providers, Twining Enterprise’s dedicated Programme Manager will manage incoming referrals.  The ambition is to mentor up to 120 young people from minority backgrounds to help them grow in confidence, reduce feelings of loneliness, formulate goals, take steps to actualise plans and access networks available to them.

Young people will be supported via Brightside’s leading online youth mentoring platform where they will be matched with a mentor from some of London’s leading corporates.  All volunteer mentors will be DBS screened and receive Mental Health Awareness, Safeguarding and Mentoring training through webinars ahead of full enrolment onto the programme.  Once matched with a young person, the e-mentoring will take place over a 10-week period where mentors will need to allocate a few hours per month for supporting one to two mentees.  Accessible from any device the Brightside platform is designed to nurture a mentoring relationship with associated tools and resources to support building rapport and developing conversations.

The project is cofounded by Haringey Council, and the Social Business Trust, an organisation dedicated to building meaningful connections between world-class corporate partners and social enterprises, to drive social change.

How can you get involved?

If you are interested in making a difference to the life of a young person and have the capacity to become a mentor; or if you work with young people in the Borough of Haringey and would like to make a referral to the programme, then please get in touch!
