Overcoming depression and using new skills to land the perfect job
Preeti overcame one of the toughest times of her life, living with deep depression, and found her ideal job with the help and support of our Employment Specialist… she tells us her story in her own words…
My name is Preeti and I wanted to talk to you about my journey in getting through one of the toughest times of my life dealing with depression for over two and a half years, and how Twining Enterprise has helped me get to where I am today.
On the 26 August I decided to join therapy to help me get better mentally and physically and to have someone to listen and talk to me as I was battling very deep depression. One of my darkest moments was that I was not able to get back into work. When I spoke to my therapist about this she informed me about Twining Enterprise and how they specialise in helping people get back into work.
I received a text message from my Employment Specialist Ahmed asking if I am still interested in work and I replied saying yes, I am. We arranged an appointment to discuss what I wanted to achieve such as developing my interviewing skills, applying for jobs together, updating my Linked In profile, writing applications and mock interviews.
Ahmed was, and still is, my mentor and has really supported me and helped me put the hard work into what I really wanted in terms of work, and has supported me in applying for job roles I was focused on getting into. We took the steps to succeed by seeing the potential me, and by believing in myself.
One day I received a phone call from a job I had applied for and I informed Ahmed that I have an interview and I would like help to prepare for the interview; he supported me and took the steps to get me through an interview. After revising my questions we planned a mock interview, and he gave me feedback on what I could improve on and he was very pleased with how well I prepared and how I was able to answer the questions using real life examples.
So, when I went for the interview that is exactly what I did. I managed to succeed and land a job in corporate living and this has really changed my life - all thanks to Ahmed and Twining Enterprise for the endless support and encouragement in getting through this journey.
