The Institute of Directors have today launched a report which reveals that the number of days taken off for mental health problems has soared 25% year on year. Businesses consulted, by the Institute of Directors, admitted to feeling poorly equipped to deal with the rapidly increasing levels of mental health issues being reported in the workplace.

According to the report more than half of business leaders have been approached by staff with mental health issues but just, a shockingly low, 14% even have a written formal policy to help them deal with their staff's mental health and wellbeing.

At Twining Enterprise we deal with a considerable number of people who are pushed into moderate or common mental health problems through work stress. It is common that a poor response to mental health issues in an employee exacerbate the problem. We believe many employers could to do more to support their employees mental health. That's why we deliver our Mental Health First Aid programme which can help employers better manage mental health issues in the workplace. This can help to significantly reduce some of the 127 (2015) million hours of work lost to mental health-related absence.

In our work with employers it's clear that mental health is increasingly an issue in the work place, and they feel ill-equipped to manage it. More employers are increasing support with training to enable managers to better support mental wellbeing in the workplace. Bob Kitchin, CEO
